Breast & Cervical Cancer Screening

Women’s Health Center is a participating clinic in the Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) SAGE Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program. For eligible women, Sage provides breast and cervical cancer screenings for women who are:

  • Age 40 and older
  • Have no insurance or are under-insured
  • Have an income within MDH guidelines

Sage provides free office visits for breast and cervical exams and screenings for mammograms and Pap smears.  If there is an abnormal result, Sage covers many diagnostic services and can also cover treatment.  If you have any health insurance, we are required to bill your insurance first.  If your insurance does not pay in full, Sage will be billed for covered services not paid by insurance.  Your health care provider may suggest that you have other testing or services that may not be covered by Sage, you may refuse these services, but please ask us what other resources might be available.  Sage patients receive the following services free of charge:

  • a screening office visit every year where a breast and pelvic exam are provided
  • a mammogram every year (a clinical breast exam is required)
  • a liquid-based Pap smear every 3 years unless a prior pap was abnormal
  • follow-up office visits and /or tests whenever there is an abnormal breast or cervical screening result

If you are diagnosed with either breast or cervical cancer and do not have any health insurance, please contact WHC for information about possible sources of financial assistance for coverage of treatment services.  However, if no other resources can be found, you may be responsible for the cost of follow-up care.
